PUNARNAVA – Boerhavia Diffusa
According to Ayurveda it is bitter, anemia, cooling, heart diseases, astringent to bowels, useful in biliousness, blood impurities, leucorrhoea, asthma, alternatives etc. The leaves are useful in dyspepsia, tumors, abdominal pains, and spleen enlargement. The leaves are appetizers, alexiteric, useful in opthalmia and in joint pains. Seeds are tonic expectorant, carminative, useful in lumbago, scabies. The seeds are considered as promising blood purifier. Roots are used to treat gonorrhea, all internal inflammation and edema. Roots stimulate the emptying of the gallbladder, as a diuretic, for all types of liver disorders (including jaundice and hepatitis), gallbladder pain and stones, urinary tract disorders, renal disorders, kidney stones, cystitis, and nephritis.
SARPUNKHA – Tephrosia Purpurea
It is used traditionally as folk medicine. According to Ayurveda, plant is digestible, leprosy, ulcers, antipyretic, alternative, cures diseases of liver, spleen, heart, blood, tumors, asthma etc. A decoction of the roots is given in dyspepsia, diarrhea, rheumatism, asthma and urinary disorders. The root powder is salutary for brushing the teeth. It quickly relieves the dental pains and arrests bleeding.
KUTKI – Picrorhiza Kurroa
It is useful as a laxative, liver-stimulant, improving lactation, appetite stimulant, febrifuge and as beneficial in bronchial asthma. The plant and its formulations are widely used in therapy of epidemic jaundice. Clinical studies including double-blind trials have been carried out with the root powder of the plant in patients with viral hepatitis with significant improvement in symptoms like anorexia, nausea and vomiting. There was a concurrent improvement in liver functions. Open trials in bronchial asthma have given encouraging prophylactic response with prolonged administration. It is bitter, carminative, digest ant and has a cooling effect and is used as a cardio tonic, antipyretic and anthelmintic. It is also used in diabetes, jaundice, blood disorders, hepatomegaly, liver and spleen disorders and skin disorders.
Makoi- Solanum Nigrum
Kakamachi plants is
emollient, diuretic, laxative, sedative, expectorant, herb has antiseptic and
anti dysenteric properties. It is Useful in treatment of ear, eyes and nose,
good for ulcer, inflammation of liver. Fresh juice of this herb
produces dilatation of pupils. Berries are bitter tonic
aphrodisiac; improve appetite and taste, diseases of heart eye & piles.
KANTAKARI – Solanum xanthocarpum
It is an extremely vital herb in Hindu medicinal practice. Revered for its therapeutic properties, the herb is found in many parts of India. It is one of the chief ingredients in many Ayurvedic preparations for the treatment of respiratory ailments. The herb is also a digestive and a carminative, which facilitates the treatment of gastrointestinal problems.
